How to install laminate or wood flooring on your stairs.
How to install timber flooring on stairs.
I am wondering about this since i will be installing new engineered wood flooring at the top of the stairs too and want the finishing to be done right and without excessive challenges due to poor planning.
Start your installation at the top of the stairs for the simple reason that you can avoid standing on freshly installed flooring that way.
Once you ve installed the treads and risers with wood glue complete the installation with finishing nails.
Apply flooring glue of the back of the boards and place them on the steps.
This will also help you to have all the tools right next you so all you need to do is take them one step down with every step you complete.
Nail the boards into place with finishing nails.
Attach that piece with construction adhesive and nails as well.
When installing your own laminate or hardwood on the stairs you need to figure out the type of riser you plan to use.
Allow the glue on the stairs to set for at least 24 hours before applying pressure.
The other option is to replace the tread piece entirely with a hardwood border.
Start installing the floor at the top of the stairs.
In this video we re using a tread that already has a rounded front.
You have the option of going with a painted wood or use the same flooring that you are using on the steps themselves.
Depending on the manufacturer s instructions you may need to install the tread first then the riser.
Do you recommend installing the stair treads and risers first.
If you re going to do that measure the tread size cut the tread and then attach it.
